A brief History of Roman Catholic Religion.
The origin of the Roman Catholic religion/church which is said to be the first church can be traced to Jesus and his followers and therefore goes back to around 2000 years. The Church believes that three days after he died he rose again and founded the new church with St. Peter as the first Bishop. Later on this title was changed to ‘Pope' and the successors of St. Peter continued to be the leaders of the community. The Apostles and other members of the community travelled to the distant lands of Africa, Asia, Greece, and Rome to spread the Christian religion.
Over the years the Catholic Church has played an important role in shaping the civilizations from which today's world has evolved. It helped to abolish human slavery, infanticide and polygamy. It has been a source of scientific and economic advances in many countries.
In the year1054 a split occurred between the western church and the Eastern Church which is known in history as the ‘Great Schism' and other branches of Christianity evolved. The Catholic Church still maintains the rites and rituals from the early days but some changes have come in.
